- ➤ Northshore teen Madyson Guillard celebrated her 13th birthday on New Year's Day after being born at 1:13 a.m. under unique circumstances when her mother's water broke at a laundromat during preparations for a new home (North Oaks Medical Center) and she now aspires to be a dermatologist. WDSU
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A third home caught fire off Wake Reserve Road last night when improperly disposed fireworks in a trash can reignited, following a similar incident on West Forest Drive; the fire department urged residents to soak used fireworks and dispose of them safely+ no injuries were reported. WDSU
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The first meteor shower and supermoon of 2026 will brighten Slidell's sky between Friday and Saturday as the Quadrantids peak; best viewing is in dark areas (the Wolf Moon’s light may wash out fainter meteors). The Times-Picayune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Southeastern’s accreditation was reaffirmed with no findings — a nod to its quality — and its president William Wainwright was elected to the board at a meeting in Nashville, extending accreditation until 2035. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Saints wide receiver Chris Olave was diagnosed with a blood clot in one of his lungs and is set to miss the final game in Atlanta. He is expected to be sidelined for about one month. FOX 8
