CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Soundtrack to Carnival 2026 will kick off with historic McDonogh 35 leading high school marching bands from Northshore — Southshore as the event promises a festive celebration in the community. WWL-TV
- ➤ Local leaders will be honored tonight at the NOTCF Gala at Mardi Gras World from 7–11 p.m. WWL's Brandon Walker and Brheanna Boudreaux host the event to recognize their community contributions. WWL-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ SeaD Consulting found that one‑third of West Bank restaurants mislabeled imported shrimp as local; tests in Slidell and New Orleans showed a 13% mislabeling rate. New state rules require clear signage on imported seafood (an effort to protect Louisiana’s fishing industry). FOX 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The school board decided to keep Leah Chase School open for two more years — a decision backed by a large donation that will allow local students to continue their studies. WWL-TV

- ➤ Fontainebleau seniors Smith and Sellers earned titles at the Public School Wrestling Championships on Dec. 30 (the team also won a tri-meet on Jan. 7) and are preparing for the Louisiana Classic on Jan. 16-17. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ At the Christian Tullis Memorial Tournament on Jan. 9, PJP II beat St. Martin’s 49-46 with Reece Arguelles leading a close finish — Chalmette lost 60-56 to Lakeshore following late free throws, highlighting strong team focus. The Times-Picayune
