- ➤ Brenda Palmer will host Lacombe’s MLK Day event at John Davis Park on Monday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m.; Congressman Troy Carter will speak, essay contest winners will be honored, and music, a video, and refreshments will round out the celebration. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Sixty-one women from Bad Moms That Dance traveled to London and performed at London Parade 2026 on New Year's Day. The group (which began as a single dance class during COVID) thrilled crowds near Westminster and enjoyed several days of official hospitality. The Times-Picayune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gus Pizza, who switched from baseball to golf after a bout of boredom and improved his game quickly, will join Shelton State Community College to compete in golf after the school contacted him last February (his transition highlights his dedication). The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Tonya Boyd-Cannon opened the Inauguration today by singing the National Anthem + her performance set a respectful tone for the civic ceremony. WWL-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Sam Leavitt, the top transfer quarterback from ASU, committed to LSU after a lengthy visit to Baton Rouge last week & a follow-up meeting in Tennessee. He helped lead ASU to a Big 12 championship and College Football playoff berth and is expected to boost LSU’s roster with his talent. Louisiana Radio Network
