- ➤ Crews began repairs on a sinkhole on the 8300 block of Willow Street today after residents raised concerns + the local water board said a water leak was to blame. WWL-TV

- ➤ Diversified Foods, which supplies Popeyes spices, has agreed to a $10,000 penalty over an ammonia gas leak at its Madisonville plant that briefly shut I-12 in 2015 (the company later spent millions to upgrade safety systems after an administrative appeal). The Times-Picayune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new documentary honors Arthur Hardy, founder of Mardi Gras Guide (a local icon) by spotlighting his work to celebrate Mardi Gras traditions. The film will debut soon at a local venue, giving residents a closer look at his contributions. FOX 8
- ➤ The Mande Milkshakers kicked off the annual Kings Day parade on Jan. 10 along the Mandeville Lakefront, setting a festive tone for Carnival. Heavy rains slowed the start (quickly overcome by dancing parades) as local groups look forward to Mardi Gras on Feb. 17. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Emerging environmental concerns follow the Aug. 22 fire at Smitty's Supply in Roseland, where the EPA said cleanup is ongoing and tests showed safe levels, but independent expert Scott Smith reported chemical mixtures along the Tangipahoa River and near Lake Pontchartrain that may raise exposure questions.
