- ➤ Online registration is now open for Love the Boot Week, Louisiana’s largest litter cleanup event taking place from April 18 to April 26. Community members will join local cleanups to celebrate America’s 250th birthday — the first 800 groups to register receive supply boxes with shirts, gloves, and bags. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ The St. Tammany Parish Junior Livestock Show and Sale will run Jan. 22-24 at the Parish Fairgrounds in Covington. Youth exhibitors will check in on Jan. 22 and later join Barnyard Olympics and a public sale with dinner and awards on Jan. 24 (marking the 90th show and 50th sale). The Times-Picayune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brix LaFontaine, Robert Ryals and Beija Lopes-Morgan were named Student of Year regional honorees by the Louisiana Department of Education and will represent St. Tammany Parish Public Schools at an upcoming competition where a win moves them on to the state contest. The Times-Picayune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana residents will be able to file state income tax returns on Monday, Jan. 26 via the LaTAP online portal (the easiest free filing option), with alternatives available via tax prep software or downloadable paper forms. Byron Henderson of the Louisiana Department of Revenue said electronic filing will speed up refund times. Louisiana Radio Network
