- ➤ At its annual awards luncheon, the St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce honored Southern Hotel and civic leader Carolyn Baringer for their outstanding leadership — celebrating the hotel’s role in driving tourism in Covington and Baringer’s dedication to local nonprofits. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Visit The Northshore invites residents to complete a five-minute survey (closing Feb. 16) to guide a new 10-Year Destination Master Plan that will shape tourism growth and quality of life throughout St. Tammany, including ideas for waterfront projects in Slidell. The Times-Picayune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Bruce Harvey (a dedicated volunteer) rebuilt four old floats for Krewe of Poseidon, and they will debut on January 31 at 6 p.m. along Pontchartrain Drive, Highway 11 and Gause Boulevard. The Times-Picayune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades have until Feb. 3 to submit an essay for the National Civics Bee, which invites ideas on improving their community. St. Tammany Parish will host a regional competition on April 7 (tentative), with winners advancing to the national championship this fall. The Times-Picayune
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Slidell won in both the girls’ and boys’ District 7-5A games against Salmen on Tuesday. The girls secured a 62-52 win that ended Salmen’s 20-game streak while the boys claimed a 65-60 victory behind a strong second quarter & key late plays. The Times-Picayune
