- ➤ The Krewe of Bilge has postponed its annual boat parade to Feb. 28 because freezing temperatures in the teens + 20s are expected this weekend. Meanwhile, krewes for the land parade in Slidell will march on at their scheduled times starting Friday at 6:30 p.m. WWL-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Delta Utilities announced its DU Cares program on Wednesday to help customers facing unexpected gas bill hardships by crediting up to $250 directly to natural gas accounts in collaboration with United Way of Southeast Louisiana; the company pledged $200,000 in 2026 funding, with applications reviewed at designated United Way locations. - ➤ St. Scholastica Academy honored alumni Mary Grace Gitz Keahey and Courtney Robicheaux Hunter—recognizing Keahey's volleyball and track achievements and Hunter’s soccer legacy—in its Athletic Hall of Fame on Jan. 15. - ➤ An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect from Friday night to Sunday morning as temperatures drop into the 20s and wind chills fall into the single digits, affecting local parades by Krewe of Titans. Residents (especially those heading out) are urged to dress in layers and protect pipes. WDSU
- ➤ An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect from Friday night to Sunday morning — cold air will drop Saturday’s lows to the 20s, making wind chills feel like single digits and teens, and Friday parades will see mild temps in the 40s while Saturday events reach only mid 30s. WDSU
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana is in a brutal cold snap, so many locals are staying indoors which helps viruses spread faster. Dr. Brobson Lutz (Orleans Parish Medical Society) says the dry air lowers the nose’s ability to trap germs and fight off colds. WWL-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Saints defensive end Cam Jordan said he wants to be respected and remain in black (his 16th season) as he awaits contract talks with the team. He finished last season with 10.5 sacks and hopes to keep playing in his team’s colors. FOX 8
