  • A local progress report shows that most Mardi Gras parade route participants today followed ground rules with minimal clutter and improved cleanup, though one unauthorized couch setup briefly appeared before leaving; local residents & business workers praised the change.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Krewe of Selene will hold its all women parade today at 6:30 p.m. in Slidell, featuring its signature hand decorated purses (a cherished local tradition).  WWL-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Dominic Catholic School in Lakeview celebrated its National Blue Ribbon recognition yesterday with a parade that featured the choir, dance, and cheer teams during a special program marking the school’s strong academic performance. The honor places it among only eight schools statewide nominated for the distinction.  WDSU

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • St. Tammany property transfers from Jan. 20-23 list many home and land sales with prices ranging from $7,000 to $1.61 million in Abita Springs, Covington and nearby areas. Records detail transactions between various parties plus include both public and private deals.  The Times-Picayune

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Paul’s head football coach Kenny Sears stepped down after 27 seasons, and the school is beginning its search for a new coach to continue the winning tradition + support student-athletes.  The Times-Picayune
  • Northshore High School soccer team ended a decade-long losing streak with a 4-3 penalty win over St. Paul's on Feb. 12 at Hunter Stadium + advanced to the Division I quarterfinals as the Panthers will soon face fifth-seeded Baton Rouge.  The Times-Picayune
  • On Feb. 12, the Slidell girls basketball team secured its undefeated district crown with a 72 to 48 win against Salmen + earned a first round playoff bye. Madyson Parker led with 21 points in a decisive performance.  The Times-Picayune
