  • Slidell PD advises spectators to secure valuables and avoid parking issues as road closures begin at 5:30 p.m. ahead of Krewe of Selene’s 28th celebration featuring a Friday Night Fright Feast and hand-painted purses.  WDSU
  • Local churches offer Lenten fish fries starting Feb. 20 through March 27 with dine-in, drive-thru, and carry-out options; St. Luke’s at Cross Gates Blvd in Slidell serves $12 plates of fried or baked fish with sides — similar menus are featured at venues in Mandeville, Covington, and nearby areas.  The Times-Picayune

CULTURE NEWS

  • Before Sunday's parade, Patrick Warburton (Bacchus LVII) visited Manning Family Children's Hospital to share Mardi Gras cheer with young patients unable to see the parade, offering crowns and Carnival magic to lift their spirits.  WWL-TV
  • Amanda Shaw won the Greasing of the Poles competition yesterday — a local event that brought together participants to show off their unique skills. Her victory marks a fun milestone in our community's creative traditions.  FOX 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ochsner Eat Fit invites community members to join the Alcohol Free for 40 Challenge for $59, with registration closing at midnight Sunday. Participants receive detailed metrics (including labs, body composition analysis and before and after photos) to measure their progress.  Louisiana Radio Network

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fontainebleau High School announced on Feb. 12 that it hired Christopher Womack as its new head football coach. The 55-year-old Baker graduate and former Northshore defensive coordinator replaces John Kavanaugh and will lead the Bulldogs with a focus on quality character (a trait principal Brian Hirstius prioritized).  The Times-Picayune
