  • On Ash Wednesday, the vibrant tradition of Fish Fry Fridays returns to the northshore, including in Slidell, as local churches host fundraisers with a variety of fried fish and sides. Volunteers prepare hundreds of meals every week to celebrate community fellowship and support local causes (with options varying by venue).  The Times-Picayune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Schools are awaiting reopening decisions after a water main break disrupted service, and South Claiborne remains closed pending repair work (officials are assessing safety measures).  FOX 8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire near I-12 in Lacombe smoldered Tuesday and caused a haze along the highway—officials noted no homes were damaged—while showers forecast later Thursday night and Friday are expected to boost humidity and lower fire risks.  The Times-Picayune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple said private auto insurance rates dropped nearly 6% in 2025 as homeowners’ premiums increased 4% and commercial auto rates rose nearly 6% (state data). He expects further changes as reforms approved last year begin to take effect.  WWL-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Slidell Tigers secured a 52-35 win over West Monroe in the Division I nonselect second-round playoff game on Feb. 23 with strong defense despite 29 turnovers. The team will host Denham Springs on Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. as they prepare for their next contest.  The Times-Picayune
