  • Former Gem Theater, once a brewery, will open as a baseball center early this year, said owner Adam Ritter. The 12,000 sqft site at South Broad Street and Thalia Street will include an outdoor diamond — City Council approved a zoning exception and parking waiver.  The Times-Picayune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain warns that dry and windy conditions may lead to more wildfires soon. Residents across 22 parishes are urged to obey burn bans and avoid actions like burning trash or mishandling chains as a precaution.  WWL-TV

  • On Feb. 26, the Northshore Panthers secured a 62 to 39 win over Salmen in the Division I nonselect playoff opener, led by Tyrie Spencer’s 20 points. They will face either St. Amant or Hahnville in the next round.  The Times-Picayune
  • Covington Lions secured a 60—44 win over Airline with a strong second half at Hubie Gallagher Gymnasium and will face top seeded Zachary on March 3. Coach Ryan Rushing said the defense built momentum throughout the game.  The Times-Picayune
