- ➤ Eligible nonprofits and government bodies can apply for 2026 AARP Community Challenge grants to fund quick-action projects that improve public places, transportation, housing, digital connections, and disaster resilience; applications are due by 5 p.m. Eastern today and projects must be completed by Dec. 15. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On March 8, Slidell’s St. Pat’s parade will roll through Olde Towne with 1,200 participants tossing 420,000 pounds of produce including cabbages, potatoes and carrots. Organized by the Olde Towne Slidell Merchants Association, the parade celebrates 51 years of family fun and community spirit — a cherished tradition. The Times-Picayune
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana Economic Development announced Tuesday that 19 sites (across 16 parishes) will receive $140 million to improve infrastructure and attract new investments in energy, manufacturing and logistics, with more details coming in the following months. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Council Member Amy McCarren led a walk through Hollygrove tonight to highlight broken streetlights in District A. The effort follows Mayor Helena Moreno’s Lights On initiative that prioritizes fixing city lighting to improve safety and quality of life. WDSU

- ➤ Junior Paul Hoyt scored 21 points and hit five 3-pointers to lift the Hawks to a 68-45 playoff win over David Thibodaux on March 3 — the defending state champions will travel Friday to face top-seeded Madison Prep. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Hannan senior Ava Scaglione signed with the University of Iowa on Feb 23 to continue her cheerleading career, and she was pictured with family members Michael, Lilly, and Hailey Scaglione. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Hannan high school football named Austin Bellamy as its new defensive coordinator today — replacing Don Kelley. Bellamy, who coached at Jesuit and Northshore, said he is excited to build a gritty team and improve the Hawks' defense. The Times-Picayune
