- ➤ Congressman Troy Carter unveiled a plan to build a multimillion-dollar community pool in Slidell to offer residents a new recreational spot. Details on timing and costs will be presented at upcoming council meetings (pending review). FOX 8
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana crawfish processors face labor shortages as halted H-2B applications block returning skilled workers; agriculture commissioner Mike Strain warns the shortage could cost farmers $121 million and the economy $300 million. Louisiana Radio Network
- ➤ Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple announced nearly 40 companies have filed rate decreases, including a 6% drop from Imperial Fire & Casualty benefiting 41,000 policyholders and a 7.5% cut from Allstate North American aiding 17,000 customers. He expects further savings as reforms reduce accidents. Louisiana Radio Network
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Investigators are assessing storm damage today in St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes after a squall line with possible twisters passed from 7:00 p.m. until midnight, knocking power out for over 12,000 customers and damaging trees, powerlines and roofs. WWL-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Senate Natural Resources Committee approved a bill to create a recreational alligator hunting season, allowing locals to enter a lottery for 10,000 hook & line tags statewide; the measure will move to the Senate floor for further discussion. Louisiana Radio Network
- ➤ Senator Regina Barrow proposed a constitutional amendment to raise the minimum wage (from $7.25 to $10.25 an hour) and adjust it annually for inflation; the measure requires a two-thirds majority in both houses before going to voters. Louisiana Radio Network
