COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ray Taylor, a Navy veteran who served in World War II, celebrated his 100th birthday today with family, friends and staff at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local libraries offer a busy slate of events this week; Author Talks with David Armand occur April 9 at the Causeway branch, a healthy cooking demo takes place April 1, and used book sales run March 20-21 in Slidell and Covington along with Lego and art sessions at other branches.  The Times-Picayune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Audubon Aquarium Rescue returned over 30 sea turtles to the Gulf on Thursday after treating them for pneumonia and frostbite. The group rescued 27 cold-stunned turtles from New England last fall and two local green turtles after cold snaps, and they changed the release site due to a recent oil spill.  The Times-Picayune
  • Slidell’s National Weather Service office confirmed an EF1 tornado near Franklinton along Highway 16 plus EF0 tornadoes near Bush and Folsom after Wednesday's severe storms caused minor damage such as blown windows — survey teams continue damage assessments and may share more details later today.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews in Slidell are isolating an uptown water main break near Tulane after water subsided, and repairs will continue through the weekend while Mayor Moreno considers council oversight.  WWL-TV
