ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Cleanup efforts are underway in Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parishes after tornadoes hit several communities, damaging homes and knocking down trees. Officials report about 30 houses are affected and a road near Covington is blocked—no injuries have been reported.  WWL-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Shortly before 6 a.m., officers received a call about a parked car hit-and-run near North Boulevard and saw 57+year-old suspect Tana Boudreaux speeding away as she led a chase through Olde Town Slidell+hitting a stop sign when her wheels fell off, which resulted in her arrest on multiple charges.  AN17
  • Overnight, multiple vehicles were burglarized near Buddy Ellis Road at The Village, The Palms and The Reserve at Juban Lakes—Sheriff Jason Ard said LPSO Burglary Detectives are actively investigating the incidents.  AN17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Louisiana Federation of Teachers, one of the largest teachers unions, endorsed Amendment Two on the March 29 ballot to permanently convert a one-time stipend into a salary increase + it would lock in current pay of $2,000 for teachers and $1,000 for support staff. Early voting runs from March 15 to March 22 + union president Larry Carter said the change protects salaries from future budget cuts while a lawsuit challenges the ballot language.  WWL-TV
