EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ponchatoula-based sNoBalls is accepting applications for its Summer Arts Camp and Arts Educator scholarships to help K-12 students and educators attend arts programs; applications are due April 15. It will host a ball (Let’s glow theme) on Saturday, April 25 at the Knights of Columbus Hall to support the initiative.  AN17

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local fishermen worry the oil leak may shorten their fishing season and affect their livelihoods, so environmental teams are assessing the spill — officials plan a cleanup if needed.  FOX 8
  • A prescribed burn was held on Feb. 25 in St. Tammany Parish to restore longleaf pine trees that once covered millions of acres — local conservation groups, including The Nature Conservancy, are working with state and federal agencies to replant and protect the ecosystem.  The Times-Picayune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A key downtown route will close for on-site safety inspections due to ongoing bridge and ferry repairs. Local officials advise commuters to plan alternative travel routes during the brief closure.  FOX 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • After months of planning and construction, the St. Tammany Health System Parenting Center opened its new 3,000 sqft facility on Koop Drive Trailhead in Mandeville on Tuesday, March 17. The center, located near the Tammany Trace walking path and Kidz Konnection Playground, offers weekday classes for parents.  AN17
  • St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington has been named one of America's best hospitals and the fifth-best in Louisiana by Newsweek's 2026 World's Best Hospitals rankings. Hospital CEO Joan Coffman praised the team for their commitment to high-quality care in the Northshore community.  AN17
  • St. Tammany Health System’s Home Health Department in Covington was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s Best Home Health agencies for 2026, earning a High Performing rating. It serves the Northshore community with skilled nursing, therapy, and support services.  AN17
