CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two Slidell teens—Michael Emanuel Lanier and Mason Paul Eugene Fischer, both 17—were arrested for their role as passengers in a high-speed chase on Sunday that ended when the driver fled after a spike strip deployment fatally struck Sergeant Grant Candies of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office. - ➤ Sgt. Grant Candies (37) was struck and killed while deploying spike strips during a high-speed chase near the Oak Harbor Exit in Slidell after officers tried to stop a vehicle with no license plate on Brownswitch Road, and three people (including two teenagers) were arrested on charges including first-degree murder and aggravated flight. - ➤ Yesterday morning, a storm system moved through southeast Louisiana, causing flash flooding risks in urban areas such as New Orleans, Slidell, and Hammond—forecasters recorded a 78 mph wind gust and warned of possible tornadoes and hail. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 a.m. in affected areas and reported scattered wind damage. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Hospice Foundation of the South closed on a property near Covington and will build a second Hospice House modeled on its Slidell facility with three patient rooms, a guest suite, library and living room—designed to offer free care for those in their final days. The organization has launched a capital campaign to raise $500,000 and will hold its annual Crawfish Cook-off on April 26 at Fritchie Park to support the project. The Times-Picayune
