COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Slidell is upgrading parks and playgrounds as Mayor Randy Fandal plans to refurbish neighborhood sites such as Possum Hollow Park and will start work on the Bantam Baseball Association complex in the coming months to boost local recreation + support business.  The Times-Picayune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Entergy Louisiana will soon offer energy efficiency incentives for customers who install smart thermostats, EV chargers during off-peak hours, or use solar battery storage. Eligible customers receive a $50 upfront rebate per thermostat + a $7 monthly EV credit, while New Orleans customers follow a separate program.  Louisiana Radio Network
  • Associated Wholesale Grocers will invest $110 million to upgrade its Pearl River facility in St. Tammany Parish with new automated systems + severe weather protections. Construction will begin in January 2027, and the project will keep 334 employees plus 38 contractors while offering job upskilling opportunities.  The Times-Picayune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twelve St. Tammany Parish Public School scholars have been named 2026 National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, with students from Fontainebleau, Lakeshore, Mandeville and Northshore high schools. They will compete for scholarships later this school year (nearly half will earn the Merit Scholar title).  The Times-Picayune
  • Richard Moore, a Covington resident and longtime Latin teacher, has authored a textbook titled Novus Ordo, Rite of the Mass to help priests with pronunciation; the guide is in preproduction and will soon be available in local bookstores + he is also working on translating the Psalms.  The Times-Picayune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lab reports released March show stormwater from the Smitty’s Supply facility in Roseland is contaminated with PFAS chemicals from firefighting foam after a fire, and experts warn the runoff may spread unsafe levels through drainage to the Tangipahoa River & Lake Pontchartrain.  WDSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • District coaches have selected standout players and coaches for the 2025-26 All-District Girls' Soccer Teams, including representatives from St. Tammany Parish schools. The selections highlight key athletes who will boost the upcoming season.  The Times-Picayune
  • Pope John Paul II beat Northlake Christian 3-2 at Mula Family Field on March 23. Reliever Taytem Miller struck out three final hitters with the bases loaded to secure the win in a tight game.  The Times-Picayune
  • The 2025-26 Farmer All-Parish Girls’ Soccer Team was named by sports editor Joseph Halm to honor players from Hannan, St. Scholastica and Pope John Paul II — selections that reflect a season of state championship wins and key achievements.  The Times-Picayune
