GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dan Casey resigned as head of the OMV after computer system crashes caused delays in issuing driver’s licenses and other key documents across the state. Governor Jeff Landry said Casey took on a tough job with an old system and that a new system is planned but may take two and a half years to install—officials hope the upgrade will improve services.  The Times-Picayune
  • Dan Casey resigned as head of the Office of Motor Vehicles after computer issues made it hard for residents to get or renew licenses. Gov. Jeff Landry said he will name an Interim Secretary soon as work continues to fix the old system—prompting a state of emergency due to the disruptions.  WWL-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • On March 27, the Slidell Tigers won 14—0 over Fontainebleau in a five-inning district softball game after a seven-run first inning. Senior pitcher Bailey Mackles, a University of Louisiana-Lafayette signee, allowed one hit and threw nine strikeouts as his team bounced back from a loss to Northshore.  The Times-Picayune
