COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nonprofit director Sue Rotolo was named Dick Knight Award winner by the Northshore Community Foundation for her work with The Good Samaritan Ministry that supports residents with 11 programs and 135 volunteers. She plans to use the $5,000 prize to honor her family and further expand services.  The Times-Picayune
  • The St. Tammany Health System Parenting Center moved into its new 3,000 sqft home (opened Mar. 17) on Koop Drive to offer expanded classes and support for families. It is located close to the Tammany Trace trail (a valued local asset) where community resources are easily reached.  The Times-Picayune

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Global supply-disruptions have pushed Louisiana gas prices to average $3.63 per gallon on Tuesday, up from last month’s $2.56. Local pumps remain below the national average of over $4 as drivers face rising fuel costs.  The Times-Picayune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Tammany schools will start LEAP testing from April 27 to May 8 as part of the state’s accountability system — local teachers and pediatric experts report increased stress among students during the testing period. Officials say potential changes may come when the current contract ends in 2027.  The Times-Picayune

FINANCE NEWS

  • Insurance brokers advise homeowners to install FORTIFIED roofs before hurricane season; starting July 1, insurers will offer discounts that can cut premiums by up to 55% in certain southern areas.  Louisiana Radio Network

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Tammany Health System dedicated its new 22,000 sqft cardiology center on March 25 at the Charles A. Frederick Medical Office Complex near St. Tammany Parish Hospital (connected by a pedestrian skybridge) to improve outpatient cardio care on the northshore.  The Times-Picayune
  • St. Tammany Health System has launched the PreventT2 program for adults at risk of Type 2 diabetes in Covington, where participants will meet weekly for a year-long course to learn weight loss, exercise and stress management strategies, with pilot enrollment free.  The Times-Picayune

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU second baseman Seth Dardar was named SEC Co-Player of the Week after he batted .600 with four doubles, a home run and five RBIs in a weekend series (the Mandeville native earned the honor on Mar. 31).  FOX 8
  • The 2025-26 All-District boys’ basketball teams including local standout Jerry Birdlow from Slidell have been announced by district coaches, honoring MVPs Jordan Bedford, Tyrie Spencer & Aidan Hutchinson. The selections recognize top players and coaches across St. Tammany Parish schools and neighboring teams.  The Times-Picayune
  • District coaches named the 2025-26 All-District Girls' Basketball Teams featuring players from St. Tammany schools; selections include first and second teams and district MVPs from Districts 6-5A, 7-5A, 7-4A and 9-2A (with top honorees like Alanna Benoit and Jaelynn Elliott).  The Times-Picayune
