- ➤ Hundreds gathered at Harbor Center in Slidell yesterday to honor Sgt. Grant Candies—an officer who died last month while trying to stop a speeding car on I-10; law enforcement colleagues and family remembered him with heartfelt words during the service. WGNO
- ➤ Slidell will use a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile to upgrade the Olde Towne pocket park at Carey and Robert streets — plans include a paved path, water feature and public art to create a welcoming space for families. Grant Candies' final call before his remains were laid to rest in Pearl River as community members honored him after a funeral service at Harbor Center Tuesday following his death in a high-speed chase in Slidell — the emotional tribute was captured on video. - ➤ Family, friends and law enforcement honored Deputy Sgt. Grant Candies on Tuesday in Slidell—visitation began at 10 a.m., a service was held at 1 p.m., and a procession started at 2:30 p.m.—after he was fatally struck by a fleeing suspect’s vehicle while trying to deploy spike strips during a high-speed chase.
