- ➤ Brian Clement from CA Homes warned that tariffs may add $7,500 to $10,000 to a house price — a tough cost for buyers facing high interest rates and rising insurance expenses. He urged lawmakers to take steps that lower building material costs and ease extra charges from new energy regulations. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ After years of being empty, Amazon’s facility in Slidell is moving ahead with permits pulled — for signage and interior buildout. The company plans to open the facility in late summer and add over 300 jobs including positions for truck drivers and warehouse staff. WDSU
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Colorado State University researchers predict an above-average hurricane season starting June 1 and ending Nov. 30 with 17 named storms, including nine hurricanes and four that will likely become major storms. They said weak La Niña conditions will fade soon, which could bring a 33% chance of a major hurricane striking the Gulf Coast— and a 51% chance across the entire U.S. coast. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming and Senator Rick Edmonds launched the Louisiana K-12 School Transparency Project Portal, a new website hosted on the Department of the Treasury site that provides continuously updated budgets, expenditures, contracts, and salaries so parents can see how tax dollars support public and charter schools. The portal, mandated by Act 370 from 2023, helps clarify school spending for community transparency. Louisiana Radio Network
