CRIME NEWS

  • Late Friday night on April 4, deputies responded to a gunfire call on Lemieux Boulevard in Lacombe and discovered 11 firearms (including a stolen weapon) along with various drugs in a home; two individuals were taken into custody.  WWL-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Tammany parish began construction of a $34 million, 3.5 mile two lane road in Mandeville connecting Highway 1088 and Highway 190 — a project nearly 20 years in the making. Parish President Mike Cooper said the road will ease traffic for more than 3,000 drivers each day and include roundabouts and access to Pelican Park, with voters set to choose its name and completion expected in two years.  WDSU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Buck moth caterpillars have returned early in Slidell and stung residents as warm weather jumpstarted their numbers; LSU’s Dr. Aaron Ashbrook advised using adhesive tape, a cold compress, washing the area, and seeking help for allergic reactions—residents should follow these steps—to stay safe.  The Times-Picayune

  • On April 4, Salmen seniors Ty’ler Jones and Kalia Williams announced their college plans. Jones will play basketball at Division III Hendrix College in Conway, Ark (he was a standout guard) and Williams will play volleyball at Dillard University NAIA (the school is near her home).  The Times-Picayune
