- ➤ Registration has opened for the Youth Fishing Rodeo at Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge on June 7 for children 4 to 15, where they can fish at the Jim Schmidt Boardwalk Trailhead near I-59 North with help from fishing mentors between 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.+ the event costs $10 per child and registration ends on May 31 with a T-shirt guarantee for those signing up by May 14. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Officers reported a fatal crash on April 13 on West Hall Avenue near Weilwood Drive around 4 p.m. when a Honda turning left collided with a Can-Am Spyder that ejected its driver, Akeem Holden, age 35—he died from his injuries as toxicology tests were taken and the investigation continues. WGNO

- ➤ A woman attempted to shoot her husband outside a Ponchatoula fast food restaurant and killed herself Monday afternoon, police said, with the husband suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound near a car wash (their identities will be released once next-of-kin are notified). AN17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Louisiana lawmakers are debating auto insurance reform that may limit damage claims with a key proposal, House Bill 34 by Rep. Brian Glorioso (R-Slidell), which would let experts challenge high medical bills. Gov. Jeff Landry and Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple held separate press conferences last week and lawmakers will continue these discussions as the Legislature prepares its session. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Lawmakers returned to the Capitol Monday at noon to start the regular session that addressed the insurance crisis, state budget and teacher pay raises after Amendment 2 failed; the session will continue until Thursday-June 12. WGNO
