- ➤ The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for Willie Elzy Wells Jr., 32, wanted for first-degree murder, armed robbery and felon in possession of a firearm after a shooting in the 26000 block of Mount Hennan Cut Road in Kentwood just before 1 a.m. April 5 that killed Antonio Famularo—residents are advised to avoid Highway 440—until the investigation ends. - ➤ A Ponchatoula man—20-year-old Osmer Noel Villalta-Lopez—was indicted on April 16 by a St. Tammany Parish grand jury for second degree murder and obstruction of justice after he is accused of fatally shooting 24-year-old Yelson Hernan Banegas-Garcia on December 28, 2024 in Lacombe with Detective Katie Darby leading the investigation. - ➤ Representatives Clay Higgins and Troy Carter have reintroduced the bipartisan Destruction of Hazardous Imports Act to let the FDA destroy contaminated food imports—closing a loophole that lets harmful products be re-exported—and to protect consumers and support Louisiana’s seafood industry. - ➤ State Rep. Stephanie Berault has introduced a bill in the 2025 legislative session that would allow St. Tammany Parish to create an inspector general's office to audit the Parish Council’s budgets. The bill, supported by Concerned Citizens of St. Tammany and a Parish Council resolution, remains theoretical as questions on funding and further legislation must be addressed (the office would have the power only to review budgets, not to oversee all agency spending). - ➤ Today, the Louisiana Senate Transportation Committee unanimously passed a bill that will impose a $150 fine on drivers who use the left lane at the speed limit without attempting to pass & the measure aims to reduce traffic hazards on highways. WWL-TV
