CULTURE NEWS

  • Local vendors are serving up innovative crawfish dishes today at Jazz Fest while sharing details behind their recipes (a nod to local culinary craft) for eager food lovers in town.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Army Corps of Engineers paused nearly finished home elevation studies meant to reduce flood risk in parts of Louisiana as state officials urge a quick review. They plan to decide soon if another agency or the Corps will manage the work + cost concerns linger.  The Times-Picayune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mandeville senior Gianna Ericksen accepted an offer to join the University of New Orleans basketball team as a walk-on after recovering from a torn ACL. The standout (formerly at Northlake Christian) earned District 9-2A honors by averaging 13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals as a junior.  The Times-Picayune
  • LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 249th pick in the 7th round of the NFL Draft. Coming off an injury-filled 2025 season, he will develop his game behind star Patrick Mahomes.  WWL-TV
  • LSU linebacker Harold Perkins—a local native and former Saints fan—was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the 215th pick of the 6th round in the NFL Draft; he recorded 220 tackles, 17 sacks, and 5 interceptions at LSU, adding fuel to local NFL rivalries.  WWL-TV
  • The Saints selected LSU wide receiver Barion Brown with the 190th pick in the 6th round, making him the team’s third receiver pick as it seeks to boost the offense around second-year quarterback Tyler Shough. Brown led the Tigers with 53 catches last season — adding depth to the lineup.  WWL-TV
  • On Saturday, Apr. 25, Pearl River rallied with seniors led by pitcher Aidan Ward to clinch a 7 to 5 playoff series win over Breaux Bridge at home, setting the stage to host district rivals in the quarterfinals.  The Times-Picayune
