- ➤ The Slidell City Council honored two neighbors who rescued bedridden Dixie Walker from a house fire in Redwood Circle earlier this month. Fire officials believe the blaze began in her garage after a loud boom, and her family is fundraising for her recovery. WDSU

- ➤ Miranda Sensat from Denham Springs was crowned Miss SLU — fulfilling her three-year dream to honor her late mother by launching her Teal for Dee project to raise ovarian cancer awareness. She will compete at the Miss Louisiana Pageant in Monroe from June 14-20. AN17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local creative leader Joel Dyson offers Camp Art, an affordable program opened in 2017 that lets children ages 6-12 explore visual art + music, creative writing, and theatre. The camp provides families with a budget-friendly summer option and is accepting donations to expand its programs. WDSU
- ➤ On Tuesday, St. Tammany Parish School Board member Brandon Harrell apologized for using an expletive during the April 16 meeting on the union contract vote, and board president Amanda R. Martin decided not to pursue a vote for censure while inviting public feedback. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Today marks 20 years since the Saints drafted Reggie Bush with the No. 2 pick during the city's rebuilding after Katrina. Bush boosted ticket sales and later donated cars to the Slidell Police Department & helped lead the team to its first Super Bowl win. WDSU
