- ➤ Two crashes on I-10 Westbound—one near Morrison Road around 6:43 a.m. that caused heavy traffic up to Bullard Avenue and one on the Twin Span bridge at Mile Marker 259 that blocked a lane—delayed Monday morning commuters from Slidell, so drivers are urged to take alternate routes. WDSU
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 15-year-old from Slidell was arrested on Friday after leading police on a 30-mile chase in a stolen car from the Magnolia Heights neighborhood—officers later found a replica Glock-style BB gun and burglary tools inside the car, and he now faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated obstruction of highway commerce, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of burglary tools, and no driver's license. - ➤ Louisiana’s public schools ranked 37th in U.S. News and World Report for K-12 education, up from 40th last year and 46th two years ago—Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley said the rise comes from focusing on reading, math, and extra tutoring for students who need more help. Louisiana Radio Network
- ➤ The Louisiana House Appropriations Committee advanced a state budget that would give certified teachers a $2,000 one-time stipend and other staff $1,000 for next school year while also setting aside $93.5 million for the LA GATOR program to help families with private school and homeschooling costs. Lawmakers added $17.5 million for extra pay for high-performing teachers and plan a full House vote on Thursday—this move follows voters’ recent rejection of a measure to make these bonuses permanent.
