- ➤ Hope House is offering free classes for adults to learn how to spot child abuse and human trafficking beginning May 13 with the Stewards of Children training and continuing with additional sessions through December 9—helping people report warning signs and protect kids in St. Tammany Parish. - ➤ Dozens of residents from Bell-Air Subdivision in Slidell gathered Tuesday evening to voice concerns over brown, cloudy water and rising bills—residents noted worsening quality since Magnolia Water Company took over. Magnolia officials said they were working to secure funds to build a new well within one year—neighbors worry delays may put their health at risk. WDSU

- ➤ Deputies in Folsom arrested a mother and her son and rescued 28 malnourished dogs from a dogfighting operation after a resident reported animal abuse near the 12000 block of South Hay Hollow Road—where they found training equipment, medications, and an illegal machine pistol. WWL-TV
- ➤ Narcotics detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office searched a home in the 3700 block of Riviera Drive in Slidell on May 8 and seized 392 tapentadol pills, 43 methamphetamine pills, 6.1 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia—leading to the arrest of 20-year-old Vincent Parker for drug distribution and a summons for 40-year-old Broderika Encalade. - ➤ St. Tammany Parish deputies arrested a mother and son for running a dog fighting ring near Folsom after a concerned resident reported animal abuse on South Hay Hollow Road; officers found 28 pit bulls showing malnutrition, training equipment and an illegal automatic weapon, and they charged 45-year-old Natia Alexander and 23-year-old Austin Alexander on 28 counts. - ➤ Keep St. Tammany Beautiful is hosting an expanded Household Hazardous Waste Day event on May 31 at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds in Covington from 8 a.m. to noon so that about 600 parish residents can sign up in advance to select a drop-off time for safe disposal of household wastes. The event will accept items such as automotive products, cleaning solvents, fluorescent light bulbs, and tires—but will not accept medicines, smoke detectors, or Styrofoam packaging peanuts.
