- ➤ Operation Cast Iron Cook-Off will take place May 23 in Olde Towne from noon to 4 p.m., where teams using cast-iron cookware will prepare classic Louisiana dishes for judges, with live music, a boutique alley, children’s area + food samplings; proceeds will benefit the Friends of Slidell Police Foundation. - ➤ On Monday, May 25 at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, a Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. to honor veterans including Michael James Guillory, Clarence Thompson, and Paul Mahoney Lagasse Jr.—featuring military honors and remarks by guest speaker Dave Newcome. - ➤ On May 2, residents drove 600 vehicles with hazardous waste to the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds in Covington for disposal under the Keep St. Tammany Beautiful program; Clean Harbors collected and recycled materials like tires, electronics, and chemicals, and the next collection will be held in Slidell in October.
