CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 38-year-old Slidell man named Antwine Smith was arrested on May 14 after a traffic stop near West End Boulevard and Lakeshore Marina Drive led officers to find marijuana, cash, packaging materials and a semi-automatic handgun with an obliterated serial number—further searches of his home uncovered additional drugs and he now faces charges including firearm possession and resisting arrest. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is working with ten other Southeastern states to teach people how to safely live with alligators. The coalition launched GatorWise.org — a site with tips such as not feeding alligators and avoiding food scraps in water to help lower the number of nuisance complaints. WWL-TV

- ➤ Two Slidell softball players announced their college plans on May 20 — infielder Gracie Nelson will play at Coastal Alabama North Community College and first baseman Eddrian Schenkel will join NAIA’s Voorhees University in Denmark, S.C. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ On May 16, Lakeshore celebrated two college signees—Darby Keating signed with the Southern Mississippi Dance Team and Reese Sanzone headed to Delgado Community College after posting 81 strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA in 81 innings pitched. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Hunter Mullen from Slidell High made school history on May 15 by becoming the first student to sign to bowl at college—he signed with Spring Hill College in Mobile and ended his senior season with a 223 average, a high game of 299 and a high series of 799. The Times-Picayune
