CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Slidell Police responded on May 25 when a piglet was found hiding under a police car at a local hotel; officers carefully coaxed the animal into custody and now it is at the Slidell Animal Shelter for evaluation. FOX 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ After Amendment 3 was voted down on May 16, the board held a strategy session on May 21 to plan a new contract for teachers & staff before the current deal ends on June 30. District leaders and the local federation will meet soon to address funding and compensation issues. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ The St. Tammany Parish Library launches its 'Unearth A Story' Summer Reading Challenge with events for all ages, including Painting With A Twist at the Slidell branch on July 14 (5:30 to 7:30 p.m.) and local history sessions starting June 10 as part of a summer lineup. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Today, Louisiana health officials implement new SNAP restrictions that limit EBT purchases to authorized ZIP codes within the state and select border areas; recipients can request temporary out-of-state access for emergencies. WWL-TV
- ➤ Today, Louisiana legislators approved bills to stop local vendors from mixing imported seafood with Louisiana-caught products and set fines from $15,000 to $50,000 for violations. One law now lets the Agriculture Commissioner seize and destroy improperly labeled seafood to protect local fishermen. FOX 8

- ➤ The St. Tammany Farmer has named its 2026 All-Parish Softball Team to honor 18 top high school players from the season in the parish. Sports editor Joseph Halm selected the team, which features players recognized for strong state tournament showings and season highlights. The Times-Picayune
