CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Ozone Sound-Off is set for May 30 at Slidell Little Theatre at 6 p.m. and will feature local songwriters including Madison and Stephen McDonald, Caroline Tebbs, Laine Bleu, and Hannah Belle; it will be hosted by (Grammy-nominated) Greg Barnhill and is a mid-year fundraiser for the Ozone Music Foundation (which supports programs for aspiring songwriters). - ➤ The St. Tammany Parish Library is partnering with the State Library of Louisiana to offer one state park pass each month at its Covington, Folsom, Lacombe, Madisonville, Mandeville and Slidell branches, allowing a carload of visitors free entry to any state park and an optional outdoor gear backpack due back in 7 days—only available on a first-come, first-served basis. The library is also hosting events such as a Southern Folk Art lecture on June 11 at Covington, Nailed It: Bad Art Night at Slidell on June 10 and July 8, Virtual Tai Chi on June 4, jewelry making on June 5 and jar decorating on June 6. - ➤ On Sunday, two nuclear plants were down in southeast Louisiana as Waterford 3 was offline for scheduled maintenance and River Bend unexpectedly failed, causing rolling outages that left over 100,000 customers without power, including 52,000 in New Orleans. Power was fully restored Monday morning & Entergy now works with grid operators to monitor electricity demand. WWL-TV
