- ➤ Louisiana lawmakers have launched a special committee—aimed at securing permanent teacher pay raises—to support education statewide; the committee will hold its first meeting soon. WWL-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Landry signed HB1187 to provide 3,000 grants for fortified roofs using $50 million in excess funds, & Insurance Commissioner Temple said a lottery to apply for the grants will run from June 1 to June 19 with expanded eligibility. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ State leaders will launch the Rural Tech Catalyst Fund at a May 29 press conference at the State Capitol to support health tech startups in rural Louisiana as part of a $20M program by Sept. 30; companies with ready-to-deploy products meeting criteria can apply online (opened May 27). - ➤ The Louisiana Department of Health began issuing SUN Bucks on Wednesday, May 27 for eligible children to receive a one-time $120 grocery benefit for summer nutrition + funds will be added to their EBT cards through Tuesday, June 2. WDSU
