Good morning, Slidell. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 3rd of June.
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A Southeastern Louisiana University professor said that tariffs on imported goods will lead to higher costs for everyone. He explained that even though the tariffs may boost domestic factories, the added cost will act like a hidden tax — leaving less money for families to spend. AN17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A proposed law banning Kratom is headed to Governor Landry for his signature or veto — advocates say it could harm over 300,000 residents who use the supplement for chronic pain, PTSD, and addiction recovery. Supporters argue that the ban, which does not regulate enhanced products sold in stores, may push users toward riskier drugs — a change that overlooks strong public support for the natural form. - ➤ Tyler Shough stood out during Saints OTAs on May 29 when he split reps with Spencer Rattler and threw two 60-yard bombs, though he also threw one interception in a 7-on-7 series. More workouts will show if he can handle live contact football. FOX 8
- ➤ St. Paul's held its annual athletic awards ceremony on May 8 at the Gene Bennett Sports Complex where coaches and athletes were honored for the 2024-25 season; more than 600 students took part and many seniors earned academic honors while nine secured college scholarships. The Times-Picayune
