CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Three Slidell teens have been indicted for second-degree murder, manslaughter, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to distribute marijuana in connection with the March death of Sgt. Grant Candies—who was struck while deploying a spike strip during a high-speed pursuit—and their arraignment will take place on July 14. WWL-TV
- ➤ Benjamin Hart, a 28-year-old trucker who groomed and sexually abused a 10-year-old boy through online video games, was sentenced to 135 years in prison on May 20—he used his 18-wheeler as a mobile molestation facility—to commit the crimes across state lines. WWL-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two new water towers are under construction in Slidell as part of a $23 million upgrade that will supply safe drinking water and backup for over 8,000 homes in the Crossgates and Ozone Pines subdivisions—aimed at preventing outages and supporting future growth. Parish officials said the towers are expected to be fully operational by early next year. WDSU
- ➤ The Louisiana House approved a bill that would require a minimum 10-year prison sentence for anyone convicted of intentionally infecting others with incurable STDs, and mandates 25 years of hard labor if the victim is a juvenile or senior. The measure still needs Senate approval and will be considered before the legislative session ends on June 12. Louisiana Radio Network
