- ➤ St. Tammany Library marked 75 years since it opened on June 2 when local residents first started the library with help from the Covington Business & Professional Women's Club. Throughout June, its branches will hold birthday parties and other events—such as crafts, games and movie showings—that are open to all patrons. The Times-Picayune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new study shows that storm surge along the Gulf Coast — including southeast Louisiana — is gradually worsening as warming waters and rising seas push more water inland. The research warns that even small yearly increases may add up and raise flood risks in future storms. The Times-Picayune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today the Louisiana House is considering SB 232, a bill that would expand tax credits for film and TV production in Louisiana—an effort aimed at reviving Hollywood South. Representative Emily Chenevert said the plan could boost local economies—helping communities benefit from increased business activity. WWL-TV
- ➤ Louisiana’s legislature passed an anti-grooming law that makes it illegal to pursue an intimate relationship with a child under 17 using emotional manipulation or similar tactics even if abuse has not occurred. State Senator Pat Connick championed the bill after Tim Gioe was abused as a child and its bipartisan vote of 135 to 0 means the law will go into effect on August 1. WWL-TV
- ➤ Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signed new insurance reform bills expected to lower auto insurance rates by reducing payouts for car accident victims and letting the insurance commissioner block many rate increases—steps that follow years of work by both insurers and lawmakers. WWL-TV

- ➤ St. Tammany Health System’s flagship hospital in Covington was named a Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes by the Leapfrog Group and American Diabetes Association for its safe care practices. The award—given to just 36 hospitals nationally—confirms the hospital’s strong focus on blood sugar testing, hypoglycemia protocols and discharge planning for diabetes patients. AN17
