Good morning, Slidell. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 13th of June.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana recreational fishers now must limit their wahoo catches to five per person, per trip starting June 20 due to overfishing near Texas' Flower Garden National Banks. The LDWF said the move is meant to stop stricter federal rules — the department will keep track of catches through the LA Creel program.  The Times-Picayune
  • A rare election will decide the Soil + Water Board seat for five parishes this weekend. The contest has drawn online interest from local voters who are watching the race closely.  WWL-TV
  • Gov. Jeff Landry announced he named Glenn Ledet the new DOTD secretary, effective Monday — his appointment comes in the same week the Legislature approved an overhaul plan for the agency. Ledet will replace Joe Donahue, who becomes the department’s executive counsel as part of efforts to reform Louisiana’s transportation network.  The Times-Picayune

SPORTS NEWS

  • On June 7 at Lakeshore High, the Bayou Lacombe Cardinals clinched a spot in the NLFA Championship with a 30-10 win over the South Louisiana Demons as quarterback Jervious Epherson threw four touchdowns. They will face the North Mississippi Roadwarriors in a rematch of last year’s game on June 21 at the Mississippi School for the Deaf and Blind in Jackson — a key test before the title is decided.  The Times-Picayune
