GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana Public Service Commission meets today to ask MISO about the Memorial Day weekend blackouts that left tens of thousands without power—Commissioner Eric Skrmetta said he was shocked when officials could not point to a specific power plant failure. HEALTH NEWS

  • Louisiana’s warm rains and high June temperatures have boosted mosquitoes, ants and flies in the area—experts say the abnormal winter delayed pest activity. Residents should use EPA-approved repellent and fix leaks to protect their homes from termites, roaches and other pests—measures that may also reduce the risk of West Nile virus.  The Times-Picayune
  • Between 2023 and 2024, the Louisiana Department of Health recorded over 10,000 emergency room visits for heat illness and 51 heat-related deaths. Officials advise residents to use air-conditioned spaces, drink water every 15 minutes, and avoid outdoor activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during extreme heat events + seek cooling centers when needed.  WGNO
