- ➤ The Rotary Club of Slidell awarded its annual Ken Thompson Award to longtime member Joan Archer for her outstanding service and record sponsorship of more than 16 new members while creating the Leadership Northshore program. The club also inducted three new faces — Christy Pastuszek, Lodie Javery and Janice LeBlanc — to mark its commitment to local service. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ Southeast Louisiana will celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks shows scheduled from June 28 to July 4. In Slidell, the Olde Towne Fourth of July Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 4, at 4 p.m.—other parishes such as St. Tammany, Orleans, Jefferson, and St. Bernard have planned events for the holiday. - ➤ An expanded kids’ area will add a science center, golf putting green and firefighter challenge for children at the 27th Slidell Heritage Festival scheduled for June 28 at Heritage Park—volunteers will supervise the area so parents can enjoy live music, food and fireworks while children play safely. - ➤ The St. Tammany Parish coroner identified Amber Allen as a homicide victim and Richard Skyles III as a suicide victim in a shooting on Jasmine Street in Mandeville last week—deputies said the suspect fired at them and was taken to hospital where he later died while Allen was found dead inside the home. - ➤ Today, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office posted the list of about 1,690 delinquent properties in The St. Tammany Farmer and online to start the annual tax sale process. The online sale will be held on July 29 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—registration opens at 8 a.m. today and ends at 4 p.m. on July 18. The Times-Picayune

- ➤ Health experts advise residents to take simple steps against heat-related illnesses by wearing light-colored, loose clothing and staying hydrated—guidelines shared after nearly 18% of emergency room visits this June were for heat issues, with two deaths reported.
