  • The Oak Street Po-Boy Fest will return on November 16 in Slidell — local organizers plan a day focused on the famous po-boy sandwich. Additional event details are expected as the day approaches.  FOX 8

CRIME NEWS

  • A six-year-old child in Slidell was severely injured in a dog attack Monday, July 7 when the family’s Pitbull attacked, police said—he was airlifted to a trauma hospital in New Orleans.  WGNO

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis said the Big, Beautiful Bill could raise energy costs by nearly $800 a year as the loss of tax credits for wind, solar, and battery power may lead to an 11% rise in bills—forcing utilities to rethink new gas plants. He explained that the rollback of incentives makes new power generation more expensive and could impact households across the state.  WWL-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State LEAP tests show Orleans schools made modest gains with students in grades 3 to 12 increasing mastery by 2 percentage points while Jefferson Parish schools improved in math and science and five selective schools reached benchmarks of 90% or more—demonstrating strong academic performance. In contrast, St. Tammany Parish saw a slight drop in overall scores.  The Times-Picayune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bob Thomas from Loyola University New Orleans said that flooding similar to Texas last week is possible in southeastern Louisiana—he added that local levees and soil absorption help reduce the risk of flash floods if a rapid storm occurs.  FOX 8
  • Loranger residents remain under a boil water advisory after a well shaft issue with sediment caused a days-long outage that began over the July 4 holiday weekend — crews worked Monday to fill the Sweetwater tank and water samples will be tested before the advisory is lifted. Residents must boil their water for a full minute until the issue is resolved.  WDSU
