  • Darla Haro, a 79-year-old resident, received a brand-new home built by nearly three dozen local companies and tradesmen under Councilman Trey Brownfield's guidance on the anniversary of her husband's passing—her storm-damaged house had crumbled after years of loss. A trust fund was established to cover her future insurance and taxes, and her personal collections will be moved in next week with the Make-A-Wish Foundation set to benefit when the home is eventually sold.  WWL-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • DOTD said the Dularge Bridge reopened for weekday rush hour only after it closed on June 23 for repairs from a May tugboat crash — drivers should note the limited schedule during peak times —.  WWL-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Sheriff Susan Hutson faces a contempt charge that may lead to a fine of up to $500 a day — or even jail time.  WWL-TV
  • Jefferson Parish prosecutors indicted Danette Colbert, Rickey White and Christian Anderson for a decade-long scheme that lured victims, drugged and robbed them—focusing on French Quarter operations—and led to the killing of Kansas City reporter Adan Manzano in February as all three now face manslaughter charges.  FOX 8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana has seen heavy rain as a tropical disturbance moves near the coast—its chance of developing sits at about 30 percent, prompting a Flood Watch that lasts until early Saturday morning. Forecasts show heavy showers and occasional thunderstorms continuing tonight and into tomorrow morning.  WDSU
  • A Flood Watch remains in effect for Southeast Louisiana through tonight as a tropical disturbance is expected to bring heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms—local forecasts for Slidell call for 1–3 inches of rain. The National Hurricane Center says rains may continue into tomorrow, raising concerns for flash flooding in the area.  WDSU
