- ➤ Vicky Busch works on a horse farm in Folsom where she carries on Dorothy Brooke’s century-old mission to save abused horses and mules—she raises funds for Brooke USA and teaches locals about proper animal care that benefits families and their animals. - ➤ United Way will host two cook-off events to support suicide prevention and mental health services—Covington’s West Cook-Off will be held on July 28 at St. Paul’s School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Slidell’s East Cook-Off will take place on Aug. 4 at the Slidell Auditorium from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with meals priced at $10 plus tax and fees. - ➤ The St. Tammany Art Association opened the 55th Annual Summer Show on July 12 at its Art House headquarters in downtown Covington—three local artists won top awards and five others received merit awards. - ➤ St. Tammany Health System launched the Breathe Well ConneCTion, the first mobile lung cancer screening bus, which visits rural areas weekly to offer quick, painless low-dose CT scans for high-risk patients plus firefighters.
