- ➤ Amazon will start hiring this weekend for its $40 million delivery station in Slidell that is set to open this fall. The station – located on Town Center Parkway near Old Spanish Trail – is expected to create between 100 and 200 full-time positions with a starting wage of $18.50 per hour and benefits. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ St. Tammany Parish Council set aside $1.77 million to buy 168 acres in a critical drainage area near Mandeville to ease flooding. The council said it will study the land for drainage improvements—like building a pond—under its pilot program to buy undeveloped land using funds from drainage taxes and impact fees. The Times-Picayune
- ➤ On July 23, Slidell mayoral candidates Bill Borchert and Police Chief Randy Fandal clashed over police retirement funding during a forum at the Municipal Auditorium—Borchert contended that current raises already support the force while Fandal argued the funding plan was mishandled. Both candidates also discussed plans for public safety, drainage improvements, and economic development ahead of the Oct 11 election. The Times-Picayune
