Good morning, Slidell.

Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office & DEA searched a home on the 1400 block of Denmark Court on July 30 and seized eight illegally possessed firearms, three stolen vehicles, drugs, and $13,200 while arresting a 17-year-old and obtaining warrants for two other residents.

Principal Amanda Keller discussed the first day of school at Gayle Sloan Middle School today—where students have returned and teachers are preparing for the new academic year—in St. Tammany Parish.

The Louisiana Department of Education said this week that the upcoming school year will expand work-based learning by offering more high school internships and require structured physical education classes for kindergarten through fifth grade—an effort to improve career training after only about 2,000 of nearly 42,000 graduates earned internship credit last year.

Today, St. Tammany Parish Council will consider an ordinance that makes septic system inspections free every three years—funded by the Mosquito Abatement District—to address untreated sewage leaks and lower West Nile risk.

If passed, the measure will roll out inspections over three years, require timely repairs with fines for noncompliance, and take effect Jan. 1.
