➤ Gov Jeff Landry appointed King to the flood protection board but lawmakers questioned the move because he was not properly vetted as he lives in New Orleans and attended only one meeting—King is resigning so he can reapply for the correct local seat. Lawmakers say the issue weakens trust in flood protection oversight and raises concerns about bypassing post-Katrina reforms. The Times-Picayune

SPORTS NEWS

➤ Pearl River football team practiced on Aug. 21 in a scrimmage against Belle Chasse under new head coach Jerry Leonard. Belle Chasse won 13-0 in the controlled part and 12-0 in the live action — Leonard said his team must finish drives better — as they prepare to play at St. Michael’s jamboree next week. The Times-Picayune
