- ➤ At Smitty’s Supply Inc. in Roseland, emergency services and partner agencies worked around the clock in the past 24 hours to contain a still-burning fire—mandatory evacuation remains in effect within a 1-mile radius while a Temporary Flight Restriction is active within a 3-mile radius. AN17
- ➤ Crews continue battling the active fire at Smitty’s Supply in Roseland — officials report that 42 evacuees are sheltered while a one-mile evacuation zone with river booms remains in place to protect the area. WWL-TV
- ➤ WWL Louisiana's Winston Reed reported an explosion at Smitty's Supply automotive chemical facility today—emergency crews are investigating the incident for hazards and nearby damage. WWL-TV

- ➤ New Orleans and Slidell will mark Hurricane Katrina’s 20th anniversary with official events that feature memorial services, cultural exhibitions and community projects including a Salvation Army worship service today and a Katrina Memorial Dedication at Camp Salmen Nature Park on August 29th — initiatives planned to honor the region’s recovery and resilience.
