ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities are continuing search efforts in Lake Pontchartrain today for a man missing after his sailboat hit the Causeway Bridge near mile marker 14 at 3 a.m. on August 31— the woman on board was rescued and teams from LDWF, the Coast Guard, and the United Cajun Navy are working amid rough lake conditions.  WWL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • WDSU’s Travers Mackel, actor Wendell Pierce and Dr. Courtney Jackson joined a panel to mark the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina—sharing personal stories of its impact on New Orleans and discussing the changes that have improved city safety.  WDSU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • St. Tammany Economic Development Corporation received a 2025 Excellence in Economic Development Silver Award from the International Economic Development Council and will be honored at a conference in Detroit Sept. 14—17. The group also launched its new InveST website to highlight local business growth and job creation.  The Times-Picayune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Tammany Parish’s Home Rule Charter Review Committee recommended changes that would let the Parish Council fire department heads and approve contracts over $100,000 while Parish President Mike Cooper argued these revisions would revert the government back to a Police Jury style. The recommendations will be sent to the full council and may be discussed or voted on in a meeting later in September — a move that could reshape local government.  The Times-Picayune
