- ➤ Law enforcement has put boats back on Lake Pontchartrain as they search for a boater who went missing after a crash on Sunday — the search continues with boats patrolling the area. WWL-TV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Connie Noel Estes, 40, of Slidell was arrested Friday evening and charged with felony hit-and-run with death or serious bodily injury and obstruction of justice after allegedly striking 6-year-old Jeremiah Ramirez, who later died, and she appeared in court Tuesday morning with a $100,000,000 bond and will face home incarceration (wearing an ankle monitor) if released. - ➤ This fall, St. Tammany will host many festivals with food, music and art that bring neighbors together. The Louisiana Food Truck Festival is on Sept. 6 near Slidell—followed by Lago Fest on Sept. 21, Folsom Fall Festival on Sept. 27, Northshore Beer Festival on Oct. 12 and NOLA Zydeco Fest on Nov. 1. - ➤ Louisiana hunters will be able to buy guns, ammunition, archery items, hunting apparel, and certain knives without state or local taxes from Friday, September 5 through Sunday, September 7 during the Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday—business purchases and items like off-road vehicles, hunting dogs, airboats, and animal feed remain taxed. - ➤ Voter registration for the Oct. 11 Municipal Parochial Primary Election ends soon — in-person voters must register by Sept. 10 with proper ID while digital registration stays open until Sept. 20 and the contest includes a mayoral race with Mayor Bill Borchert facing Police Chief Randy Fandal to finish the term. The St. Tammany Federation of Teachers and School Employees opened the Federation Care Closet on Sept. 2 — the nonprofit offers free food, clothing and household essentials to current and retired school employees.
