- ➤ The St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce will host two free events for young professionals on the northshore to boost career skills. The Speed Connection event will be held Sept. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kent Design Build near Covington — lunch is provided — and the Young Professionals Summit will run Oct. 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Harbor Center near Slidell. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ James Bowie, a 33-year-old Covington bicyclist, died when his unlit bicycle was struck from behind by a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer on Highway 1081 near Smith Road early Sunday at 12:10 a.m.—the driver showed no signs of impairment and was uninjured. FOX 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Visit the Northshore has partnered with MMGY to create a 10-year master plan for tourism that will guide efforts to boost visitor numbers and local revenue in St. Tammany. The study—gathering input from government officials, civic leaders, and parish residents—will take at least a year with town meetings and surveys, and the Tourist Commission will meet next on Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at the visitor's center. - ➤ Interim mayor Bill Borchert and Police Chief Randy Fandal are both running for mayor to fill former mayor Greg Cromer's term—each outlining plans to improve drainage, revitalize the North Shore Mall area, and boost economic growth while addressing concerns over the Bayou Park project.
